Insomniactic Ponderings... My Wedding

Before I start this pondering I have to make it clear that I am not engaged. I'm not even IN a relationship. (Being in love with your best friend who lives seven hours away doesn't count does it? No?) This is just about something I've come to realise about myself.

I've never been the kind of girl that started planning her wedding at age seven. I never gave it any thought until I was about 16 or so when mom and I started watching things like "Say Yes to the Dress" and David Tutera's "My Fair Wedding". Watching all of these shows I of course started getting ideas of things I like if or when I ever do get married. It's only been recently that I've come to realise that those kind of grand events are not my style.

I hate being the Center of attention. I don't perform well in front of people, even family and friends that I love. Unless I marry a man who wants a huge wedding, (in which case I'll make it clear he'll be damn lucky to get a small-normal sized wedding out of me) I hope to not have above thirty or so guests. And maybe not even that many at the actual ceremony.

Tonight, while laying here attempting to drift into sleep, I've decided what would be perfect for ME.

•I would wear a short, casual, but pretty white dress, even though I hate the tradition since people follow it without actually knowing the meaning or origin of it. And I'm not a virgin to boot. (But I figure I'll piss enough people off with the rest of my plans I might as well concede this minor one)

•We'll marry in the courthouse, or perhaps a park. Not a church. I repeat NOT a church.

•The people who would be there? Myself, my husband, my patents, grandfather if he's still here, and MAYBE one or two close friends. (And his immediate family and very close friends) that's it. That makes my side a max of six people. I hope my husband doesn't have a lot of siblings and we can make it under twenty guests!

•Afterward we'll all go to a really nice restaurant for food and cake (I'm not a dancer AT ALL) and maybe a few extra not as close people could join for the party.

I read somewhere the average wedding costs over $27,000. Not only is this low key plan much more comfortable for me, but for everybody's wallets. Such a small wedding shouldn't cost more than a few thousand dollars TOPS, and with all the surplus money (think $24,000 under the average) my new husband and I could take the trip of a lifetime.

After thinking all this through I'm now really excited to potentially get married some day. Now all I need is a man!
